Halloween can be stressful for moms and dads with food allergic kiddos. While other parents might be concerned about their child’s costume, you may be worrying about keeping your child safe from his or her candy allergies. If you suspect your child may have an allergy, contact Bluegrass Family Allergy to schedule an appointment. Knowledge is the key to avoiding dangerous, food allergy situations!

Whether you trick or treat or host a scary-movie slumber party, there are multiple ways to keep your kids safe and create lifelong memories:
- If your child has skin sensitivity to certain foods, buy a costume that your child loves that includes gloves (doesn’t every superhero or princess need gloves?).
- Candy swaps are beneficial for both you and your kiddo. After trick-or-treating, bring out the safe candy at home and let the kids swap out their candy.
- Always read the label for all candies, even if you think they’re safe. Even if the product was safe to eat last year, double check the label in case the recipe has changed.
