Schedule an appointment with Dr. Brauer today.

After identifying the allergen(s) that is causing your child’s discomfort, Dr. Brauer will create a treatment plan right away. A treatment option that has worked wonders for hundreds of her patients is immunotherapy, also known as allergy shots. Here are several of many allergens that immunotherapy can successfully treat:

  • Allergic asthma
  • Dust mites
  • Eye & nasal allergies
  • Grass
  • Hay fever
  • Hives
  • Immunologic diseases
  • Mold
  • Pet dander
  • Stinging insect allergies

Unlike over-the-counter medication that treats the symptoms of an allergy, immunotherapy treats the root of the problem. When the allergen is consumed or touched, symptoms occur because the immune system sees the particle as a threat instead of a harmless molecule. When this happens, the immune system overreacts and causes one or several organs to panic – this is why allergies can be life threatening.

During the build-up phase and maintenance phase of immunotherapy, small doses of the allergen will be injected into the body. These small doses will teach the immune system that the allergen is harmless, and it does not need to overreact.

In the beginning, we will administer the allergy shots once per week so your immune system can be introduced and re-introduced to the allergen on a regular basis. Once the build-up phase is over, your child will enter the maintenance phase until he is free from his allergy. We would be honored to help you and your family live a healthier, happier life – free from allergies!
